It is ESPN and the world's leading MMA journalist, Ariel Helwani, who has summed up the decade that went into the podcast "Ariel Helwani's MMA Show".

When the best MMA feud of the decade was to be selected, the election fell on Alexander Gustafsson's first lightweight title match against Jon Jones. Who played at the then Air Canada Center in Toronto in September 2013.

- It was an incredible match to see on the spot for several reasons. We have never seen Jon Jones so vulnerable before. For the first time ever he was taken down on the ground. From nowhere Gustafsson wrestled him down to the ground in the first round, says Helwani in the podcast.

- Before the match no one gave Gustafsson a chance and the marketing before the match was bizarre, it was just about how long Gustafsson was. He was quite unknown then, but came in with a fantastic game plan and it looked like he was about to win, before Jones hit with an elbow in the fourth round that saved him the evening.

"Drama from beginning to end"

The match went out of time, five rock hard rounds, and Jones was awarded the victory on points.

Three years later, the scandal-ridden Jon Jones was interviewed by Helwani and told about his careless preparation for the match.

- He said he had partyed like never before before a match. That he went away from the fejter-hotel on the match week to party. So when he went out to the match he said to himself: “I can't understand that I did this to myself. I didn't take this seriously and now I will lose my title. "

Helwani continues:

- In the end, he won, but it was a fantastic drama from start to finish.

Jones and Gustafsson met again on the champion belt in December 2018. That time the American won the knockout in the third round.
