The former president of the Spanish Olympic Committee during the years 1983 and 1984, Romá Cuyàs , died on Friday at the age of 81.

Cuyàs stood out as an athlete of the Club Natació de Barcelona in the disciplines of athletic and mid-level marching. He developed his service to sport not only as an athlete, but as a manager and bridge between sport and fields such as culture, literature or education.

He was appointed in 1982 to direct and coordinate the project of the candidacy of the Olympic Games that took place ten years later and also held the presidency of the Higher Sports Council from 1982 to 1987. He also served within the Spanish and Catalan Athletics Federation . He was president of the Catalan Federation from 2000 to 2012 and since 1984 he was a member of the COE's lifetime honor.

The president of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Alejandro Blanco, in a statement, joined the pain of his family, his relatives and all members of Spanish athletics.
