The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, has decided to "cancel" the Petrobras oil sponsorship contract with the McLaren team, estimated at almost 200 million euros. The ultra-rightist leader called this agreement, signed in February 2018, "an absurdity committed by the previous government."

This break can be a blow to the immediate future of the British team, fourth place in the World Cup after its formidable progression over the previous year. The financial stability of the team Zak Brown, head of the Woking team, would thus be questioned.

Petrobras, 64% controlled by the Brazilian government, had committed to McLaren for five seasons. However, Bolsonaro said it was extinguished through a tweet published on Sunday: "Taxpayers' money will go to whatever is necessary," said the leader of the Social Liberal Party (PSL).
