Varberg is getting closer and closer to a historical upheaval to the Swedes. Away from Gais, the team from the west coast took a 1-0 lead after a dramatic history at Old Ullevi.

The visitors dominated the game - but a couple of fateful minutes in the first half seemed to cause a costly score loss.

The match was 45 minutes old when Anton Liljenbäck accounted for a fine preparation and gave teammate Robin Book more or less open goal. But the latter boomed roughly and sent the ball high over the bar.

A short while later came the next hardship for Varberg. This was when the left-hander Adama Fofana drew a red card after a gruff with several Gais players.

- The red card is not so much to whine about. It was dumb, says coach Joakim Persson.

With a man in short, Varberg's dominance diminished.

Despite this, the away team managed to decide late and salvage three points that can carry really far. In the 85th minute Liljenbäck made a run over half the pitch, then got the ball from Astrit Selmani before putting it on a strike in the first cross from the outside of the penalty area.

- Very nice. Important with three points, says the match hero to C More.

Varberg thus goes up in series management, at least temporarily when Mjällby can take it back via victory against Västerås later today. With two innings left, and one game more played, the distance to the qualifying spot is now five points.

- We'll just enjoy. If we lead then it is fantastic, for the others they are not so much to do. We just enjoy, says Joakim Persson.
