The date of the race had been carefully chosen to produce the most ideal conditions. The start time was also chosen with care and would take place between 05.00 and 09.00. The race was started at 08.15 when the temperature was eight degrees in the central parts of Vienna.
There were 41 hares engaged and after eight kilometers the brothers Ingebrigtsen jumped in: Jakob, Filip and Henrik who all participated in the 5000 m final of the World Cup in Doha recently. The hares all ran in black suits while Eliud Kipchoge wore white tops. "Team Ingebrigtsen" would jump into various constellations several times during the race, which was mostly run on a flat 9 km course in several turns.

Before the hares, an electric car was set to run at 2.50 per kilometer and a clock noted how to make on time comparison with the two hour limit. The car was programmed to reach the target of 1.59.50.
The race is not officially approved by the International Athletics Association IAAF because the competition was open and the cruise lanes were used in laps where they jumped in and out of the race. Any record will not be approved.
