Plan B brought Villarreal out of trouble again. The entrance of Samu Chukwueze, with Betis already launched for the comeback, triggered the chaos in a match that Rubi's had under control and in which they ended up thrashing. And all due to the work and grace of the Nigerian player, a factor of imbalance that caused the penalty that changed everything and led the Castellón festival in the final stretch.

The Villarreal of this season has a virtue: it does not need to play well or create much danger to harm. That was the great difference that the balance decanted shortly before the rest of its side after a first time dominated by Betis, which was gradually growing in the game as its center of the field was imposed. The problem for Rubi's team is that their tips didn't appear. The protagonism fell to Canales and Joaquín, able to plant themselves in the area based on short passes, but from there, nothing. Nor did Emerson and Pedraza boarding schools have just generated clear shots of their teammates.

The opposite happened in the Betic area, where the Calleja team arrived little but always did it with great danger, as in the first approach, thwarted with a good stop of Joel in the hand to hand with Rubén Peña, whom Cazorla left only before the goalkeeper with an excellent pass. Villarreal shows an excessive dependence on the Spaniard to build his attacking football and sometimes appears in positions too advanced to participate in the preparation, and his team accuses him. When it appears, yes, the yellow football is illuminated, as in the goal action. Cazorla put from the corner a precise center in the small area, where Ekambi rose to cross the ball to the second post.

Asenjo's umbrella

Minutes before, the Cameroonian had already celebrated a goal that was invalidated for offside, so clear that it did not require a VAR. With the score already in favor, he had another to expand the score but his shot went high. It was just after the clearest chance of Betis in the first half, a shot by Álex Moreno that cleared Asenjo for sure.

The Verdiblanco team did not find the prize to its insistence until the resumption. He scored on his first arrival with a right hand from Emerson, after Borja Iglesias relented he gave him a ball that fought in the area. With the game tied, Betis threw himself into the jugular of a Villarreal that looked totally unarmed.

Álex Moreno led Rubén Peña on the path of bitterness on the side and put a ball to Iglesias that the forward headed too cross. Asenjo took out the umbrella when the Verdiblanca storm worsened, saving Joaquin and William's shots when Calleja repeated the movement that already served to get out of a similar situation against Valladolid.

Penalty with VAR

Chukwueze's entry was key. Each ball that Villarreal recovered immediately went to look for the Nigerian's career, which made Betis have to start worrying about more than just looking for the rival goal. In one of his scabs in the area, a defender hit his support foot and knocked him down. Estrada Fernández did not see it but the VAR did. The goal of Cazorla, third from 11 meters, was a whole oxygen bottle for those of Calleja, who with the game again in his hand and Chukwueze in the field changed the stage from top to bottom that only a few minutes before seemed ready for The Betic comeback.

The capacity of intimidation of the Nigerian was evident in the goal that finished the game. Two defenders went to try to cover him in the band leaving Gerard and Ekambi with only one rival. The Catalan was generous and gave the goal to his partner, although in the discount he thought more about himself and finished a three-on-one adjusting the ball to the post to sign the fourth of Villarreal. Chukwueze put the icing on his big game by signing the fifth in an identical play.
