It was wet, difficult conditions on the heavily hilly 30 km long track. Nordén was overtaken after just over half the course of the young American Chloe Dygert, 22, who won by far and could calmly wait with an increasingly smile in the favorites at the goal which was neglected by several minutes.

After the race, the American was so exhausted that she had to be helped out of the bike after she had been beaten on the tarmac.

The last two years champion Annemiek van Vleuten went out last and received negative reports along the rain-soaked track and finished third. Dutch colleague Anna van der Breggen finished second, 1.5 minutes after Dygert.

The race is ongoing.
