"Without decibel but with solutions", former French minister Bernard Cazeneuve goes on campaign for 2027

While within the Nupes, the knives are sharpening for the next elections, ambitions are also asserting themselves outside the union. Bernard Cazeneuve, the former Socialist Prime Minister, launched this Saturday, June 10 in Créteil, in the Paris region, his movement called The Convention, with the aim of putting social democracy back at the center of political life.

The race for the 2027 presidential election has already begun on the left. "We need a bold left to build the future. Without decibels but with solutions." Do not count on Bernard Cazeneuve to get carried away at the microphone. The invectives and excesses of a Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the former Prime Minister does not want. "Precisely, because by doing so, he contributes to manufacturing the National Rally vote in unprecedented proportions," says the former head of government of François Hollande.

In front of about 2,000 people, Bernard Cazeneuve sold his political line: that of the PS-style social democracy of the 1990s and 2000s. Ecologist but not decreasing, redistributive but not spendthrift and above all European. Martin Schulz, Elio di Rupo and Enrico Letta, continental figures of social democracy, were also present.

"A great list of European and French social democracy"

In short, Mr. Cazeneuve wanted to offer a reassuring image and the public appreciates: "Finally, we will hear a serene word," says an activist. At the question "should we build something other than the Nupes?", laughter erupts. "Frankly, yes," says one woman.

But to win, we will have to prove ourselves against the Nupes. The first step of the battle plan is the guest of honor of the meeting, former President François Hollande who reveals it: "The European elections can be an opportunity for a rally to form a large list that could be a great list of European and French social democracy. That's the idea."

Bernard Cazeneuve will also have to play elbows among other ambitious non-Nupes left such as, for example, Carole Delga, president of the Occitanie region, and Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, mayor of Rouen. They contented themselves with short video messages broadcast during the meeting, taking care not to pledge allegiance to the former head of government.
