The municipality had sold the land and had already signed a development agreement with a construction company to build two apartment buildings on Prästjolet in Idre. A green space in the middle of the village that, among other things, associations have been critical of allowing housing to be built on.

The planned construction was appealed – and the Administrative Court in Falun took over a year to decide on the case.

Municipality: "Unfortunate"

During the appeal process, the costs of the two apartment buildings, according to the construction company, have increased so much that they now choose to withdraw from the contract.

"It's unfortunate when everyone has talked about the lack of housing in the area," says Stefan Linde, municipal director of Älvdalen.

The land in Idre can technically continue to be sold to a new developer, but then the buyer is bound to build according to the approved zoning plan, which expires in two years.

Älvdalen municipality is also currently working on a larger, in-depth master plan for both Idre center and the mountain areas, which means that the future of the green space may be discussed again when that plan has been hammered out by the council.
