• Justice Maximum tension in the Fiscal Council for the "blatant unsuitability" of Delgado and his "intimate relationship with Garzón"
  • Controversy The attorney general gives Delgado the Democratic Memory square in the face of the rejection of the majority of prosecutors, who refuse to vote

The appointment of Dolores Delgado as prosecutor of Democratic Memory and Human Rights continues to raise blisters within the prosecutorial career. The latest consequence of the appointment proposal carried out yesterday by the Attorney General of the State, Álvaro García Ortiz, against the majority of the Fiscal Council, is a string of casualties of members of the Progressive Union of Prosecutors (UPF) in the last hours.

According to tax sources reported to EL MUNDO, prosecutor Carlos Castresana (prosecutor of the Pinochet case, opted for the same position as Delgado), the superior prosecutor of Madrid, Almudena Lastra; the chief prosecutor of Salamanca, Juan José Pereña, and the member of the Superior Prosecutor's Office of Madrid Lorena Álvarez, have already completed their withdrawal from the association. To this list will be added in the next few hours the prosecutor of Sala Javier Zaragoza, prosecutor of the procés and former chief prosecutor of the National Court, who has already adopted the decision not to continue belonging to this associative group and, consequently, will present his withdrawal in the coming hours, according to fiscal sources explained to this newspaper.

At present, it so happens that the Progressive Union of Prosecutors, after the mandates of Delgado and García Ortiz in the State Attorney General's Office, has the highest level of representation in the Board of Prosecutors of Chamber, that is, in the generalate of the Public Ministry, while an increasing number of associates have been deregistered. At present, there are only 250 associates. UPF's lack of critical thinking with the decisions taken by Delgado and García Ortiz is what has led to the decline of its members. Previously, there were other heavyweights of the association, such as the prosecutor of Sala Pedro Crespo or the acting director General Director of Legal Security and Public Faith of the Ministry of Justice, Sofía Puente, who also decided to take their leave.

However, for many members of the prosecutorial career, the "straw that broke the camel's back" has been the appointment of Delgado as the new prosecutor of the Chamber of Democratic Memory and Human Rights. As this newspaper has been reporting, the aesthetic and substantive reasons for considering the appointment of the former Minister of Justice inappropriate has put the Prosecutor's Office on a war footing. Many prosecutors consider it unusual that he has been granted the position when there is a manifest "conflict of interest" with his partner, former judge Baltasar Garzón, owner of the Ilocad law firm, specialized in the matter that Dolores Delgado will control.

In addition, there are many voices that consider it intolerable that the attorney general has promoted that "a beach bar can be set up between Lola and Baltasar" within the Prosecutor's Office and add that something like that, "that patent of corso" would not be allowed to anyone else within the Public Prosecutor's Office. The "enormous damage" in the image of the institution derived from the appointment yesterday of Delgado has generated a deep malaise within the fiscal career and already has its first consequences.
