Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that Russian troops are successfully repelling the Ukrainian offensive in the zone of a special military operation.

"Within three days, the Ukrainian regime launched a long-promised offensive in different sectors of the front, concentrating a large amount of equipment and manpower for this purpose," Shoigu said.

So, on June 4, the forces of the 23rd and 31st mechanized brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine attempted an offensive in five directions. As a result, the enemy did not achieve any success and suffered significant losses: 300 troops, 16 tanks, 26 armored combat vehicles, 14 vehicles.

The next day, an attempt was made to attack in seven directions by five brigades. Ukrainian troops were again stopped, suffering even more tangible losses: more than 1,6 thousand troops, 28 tanks, including eight Leopard and three AMX-10 wheeled tanks, 136 units of other military equipment, including 79 foreign.

"Attempts at the offensive were thwarted, the enemy was stopped, Russian soldiers and officers showed courage and heroism in battles. I repeat: the enemy did not achieve its goals, suffered significant and incomparable losses, "the Russian minister emphasized.

They showed special heroism

He stressed that the 3rd company of the 37th motorized rifle brigade under the command of Junior Lieutenant Yuri Zhelanov and the commander of the 1st battalion of the same brigade, Major Vladimir Polozhentsev, demonstrated resilience and heroism.

"These units, being in the direction of the main attack, staunchly defended their positions and inflicted significant losses on the superior forces of the enemy's 37th Marine Brigade. Under the threat of encirclement, Junior Lieutenant Zhelanov, being wounded, took his company to pre-equipped defensive positions, where he successfully stopped the advancing enemy units, "said the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation.

He also highlighted the skillful actions of the operational-tactical, assault and army aviation of the Russian Armed Forces, which used 50 anti-tank guided missiles against the enemy. As a result, five tanks and 29 other armored combat vehicles were destroyed.

"I was surprised that the Supreme Commander-in-Chief wanted to talk to me"

With Junior Lieutenant Yuri Zhelanov, who led his colleagues, preventing the encirclement of the company, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke on the phone. According to Zhelanov, the telephone conversation took place late at night, when he was still in Donetsk.

"I was surprised that the Supreme Commander-in-Chief wanted to talk to me ... He was interested in how and what happened, he was interested in my condition, medical support, "said the second lieutenant.

According to Yuri, Vladimir Putin said that he would be presented with the highest state award and given another military rank.

"He praised me, it was very nice," Zhelanov added.
