Night of terror also for the alternative left to the PSOE. No one is spared. Podemos, on the one hand, and Yolanda Díaz, on the other, suffer two very hard defeats in their big bets and that means breathing even more uncertainty and tension into the future of a space that will come to negotiate its confluence for the generals with a dog's face and with too many outstanding accounts. The summary of these elections is that the 28-M has swept practically all the autonomous power of Podemos and, on top of that, it has meant the more than symbolic disappearance of the purple formation of the Community of Madrid. The place of his birth and from which the figures of Pablo Iglesias and Irene Montero emerged. The consequence is that the party is overwhelmed and shows that it is facing an end of cycle in the hegemony of space.

The problem is that the new left emerging under Díaz's leadership has also been heavily punished. The vice president had linked her fate to Ada Colau in Barcelona and, in the absence of the external vote, the Catalan had succumbed by a handful of votes to the PSC in the left bloc and to Trias in the global calculation. That means losing the mayor's office of the city. Other Diaz allies have also crashed at the polls. Especially Compromís for what it implies in political terms, since it loses the Mayor's Office of Valencia -Díaz asked for the vote for Joan Ribó- as well as the regional government with a notable drop in votes. For its part, Más Madrid seems to have reached its peak and is run over by the right in the Assembly and the capital.

In the review of the disappointment of the candidacies of the alliance between Podemos and IU (in all regions except Aragon and Asturias) there are two places with their own name: the Madrid region and the Valencian Community. In them the purple leaders had thrown out the rest to achieve survival and demonstrate to Díaz that Podemos is not a party that "is dead". However, the result has shown that there is much truth in that sentence. They have not entered these two regional parliaments and have not managed to get back into the town halls of their two capitals: Madrid and Valencia. They were identified as priority objectives.

In the case of the Valencian Community, it means losing its main regional government in the most humiliating way. That of which he has been boasting for years and which he has been placing as the most outstanding example of management and measures. Héctor Illueca has fallen far short of the 5% needed to have representation. It remained at 3.5%. So he sees his eight deputies disappear outright.

In the Community of Madrid they have been much closer but the defeat is immensely painful. Because Podemos has become an extra-parliamentary force in the realm of the right and in the place of its foundation. In addition, he succumbs in his particular duel against Más Madrid. The purples had played very hard to survive with a very aggressive campaign in search of the most ideological vote but they have not managed to translate that into their entry into the City Council. They have brushed it, but in the end they are out. The 10 deputies of the Assembly that Iglesias achieved in 2021 remain at zero.

The review of other autonomies is equally bleak. In addition to Valencia, Podemos loses the governments of Aragon, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands and La Rioja. It is only in a position to remain in Navarre, where it goes from two to three seats. Where he commanded there is a strong punishment. In Aragon it goes from five deputies to one -IU achieves another-; in the Balearic Islands from six to two; in the Canary Islands of four and zero; and in La Rioja it is maintained (two).

One of his positive news is Extremadura (four) and Murci(two) where he repeats results, although they are not worth it so that the left bloc can govern. In Asturias, where the party fights a civil war, it collapses to one, while IU is located in the three and becomes preponderant in space. It is the only autonomy where this happens.

On the other hand, the electoral map is particularly cruel to Podemos. It no longer exists in five of the 12 parliaments that were elected: to those already mentioned in the Community of Madrid, Valencia and the Canary Islands, we must also add Castilla-La Mancha and Cantabria. It should be remembered that there are no purple deputies in Galicia either.

In the big cities, in addition to Barcelona -it participates in the list of commons-, it enters Seville and Malaga (two) and does not do it in Zaragoza.

The leadership of Podemos hides behind the candidates: "The need for unity is confirmed"

Á. C.

The leadership of Podemos refused to explain the "bad results" and left the appearance of the election night in the hands of its Madrid candidates. "The need for the unity of the progressive forces with that Podemos engine is verified," said Alejandra Jacinto, who assumed the task of transferring the reading of the future.

"Sometimes we advance and sometimes we retreat but we will always continue to push," said the candidate for the Community of Madrid, who asked to form a "strong, united and courageous" bloc, alluding to the future list for the general elections under the leadership of Yolanda Díaz.
