  • Politics Sumar isolates Yolanda Díaz from the disaster on 18-F to protect her leadership

  • 18-F Total failure of Yolanda Díaz in the first Sumar exam and Podemos sinks behind Pacma

Sumar's failure in the Galicia elections has laid bare the problem of regional implementation that Yolanda Díaz's project suffers from. So one of the lessons that has generated the most internal consensus is that it is urgent to strengthen at the territorial level and deploy the organization in a controlled way and "without shortcuts" to achieve "rooting" and a close connection with the specific problems of each region.

The plot to have a

device

and some "roots" is there, but achieving that goal is going to be very complicated. And not only because it is a most demanding task in itself, but also because Sumar is colliding head-on with the interests of its own regional partners. And the fact is that the regional parties that participated in the general elections under the leadership of Yolanda Díaz defend the hegemony and control they exercise within the space of the alternative left in their own territories.

Therefore, they are wary of giving up space for the development of a new political formation that is now an ally but with which it is not known what may happen in the future. Well, in the best of cases it would force us to share electoral lists, power, militancy and decision-making and, in the worst, to compete at the polls.

Sumar's dilemma is enormous. He has to decide what he does in certain places where there are consolidated political brands with a track record of years behind them. And they are communities with a very strong political weight in the regional and national context. We are talking about Catalonia (

Catalunya en Comú

), Community of Madrid (

Más Madrid

), Valencian Community (

Compromís

), Aragón (

Chunta

) or the Balearic Islands (

Més

).

His decision could lead to a crisis with his partners, since they are already setting limits. They are warning that the reference brands in those territories are theirs. Not establishing itself in these autonomies would leave Yolanda Díaz with a political project without roots in places of vital political importance and would corner Sumar to perform as such and with his electoral brand only in regions where the left has little power, except in Andalusia and Asturias. . Two communities, by the way, in which

Izquierda Unida (IU)

has a strong presence and in which, despite not being a regional force, it has the power to claim that hegemony is its own there.

Compromís sources are categorical regarding the development of Sumar in the Valencian Community. They consider that there is no reason for this to happen because the "brand" there is theirs and that precisely in their case they are an organization that is deeply rooted among Valencians and that has a large number of militants.

In any case, one thing happens with Compromís. It is part of the Sumar alliance but does not participate in the construction of the new political force from within, as IU, Más Madrid or the

Comuns

do . Their relationship is "bilateral" and, therefore, it is an external partner that shares a parliamentary group in Congress with Díaz. The same thing happens with Chunta Aragonesista or Més.

The

commons

are involved in the construction of Sumar and the preparation of the founding assembly that will take place on March 23. However, the view of the Catalans is very similar to that of Compromís and is similar to the desire to have a relationship like the one that the PSC maintains with the PSOE.

"Catalunya en Comú is its own party with decision-making capacity. We are part of it and we are going to work so that Sumar has the best results and we are absolutely involved from day one so that everything goes well. We do want to transform Spain and we believe that tool is Sumar, but we have a party called Catalunya en Comú and it will continue to be that way," said yesterday the spokesperson for the

commons

in Congress,

Aina Vidal

, when asked about this territorial implementation of Sumar.

Sumar's spokesperson in Congress,

Íñigo Errejón

, yesterday mentioned the possibility that Sumar's "deployment" will not be the same in all territories, although he also did not want to specify what will happen where there are consolidated forces. That is, if Sumar aspires to have a leader, an autonomous leadership and its own

apparatus

.

"Is this deployment going to be the same in all territories? Well, there are deployments in which it will be done with alliances with sister forces and there are deployments in which Sumar has already taken root and is working to contribute to a territorial implementation that allows it better explain your project," he said.

The also member of the Sumar Executive explained that implementation is the main "challenge" they now face in this construction phase and that to carry it out there is no need to take "shortcuts." He underlined the "federal and confederal sensitivity" of the project, which "addresses territorial diversities" but at the same time stressed that Sumar has a project for the "whole State." Now it remains to be seen how this is achieved when it comes to bringing the organization to regional and municipal structures where others exist.
