Step One: Preparation

At the moment, Ukraine is in the first preparatory phase of the counteroffensive. Among other things, it is about building up the logistics that will supply the forces with ammunition, fuel and supplies.

"Then you also have to find out where the Russian forces are, where are their ammuniton stores and where are their fuel stores. During this time, it is important to knock out as much of it as possible so that Russia has difficulty launching counterattacks once it starts up the offensive, says Roger Djupsjö in Aktuellt.

Step Two: The Offensive

Then once the offensive begins, a fast pace is crucial. When Ukraine attacks, Russia will want to launch a counterattack, and if it happens fast enough, Russia won't be there until it's too late.

"You want to get inside the opponent's decision circle, which means that every time the opponent makes a decision, it's already too late. It goes on all the time and eventually there is no orderly counterattack and they are constantly left behind when they make their decisions, says Roger Djupsjö.

"If you succeed in this, it can happen very quickly.

Step Three: Consolidation

If you succeed in gaining ground in the offensive, then the next step comes. To defend the land taken.

"Then you have exhausted your resources and the units at the front are quite empty of both ammunition and fuel and everything you need to defend that ground.

It is a critical point where Ukraine could be in trouble if Russia then has the power to attack back.

"It is important that you have taken so much with you that you can defend and consolidate the area you have taken. It is also part of the plan to make this work, says Djupsjö.
