The United States has decided to establish an airlift to bring

humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip

.

According to the

Wall Street Journal

, the decision will be announced shortly by the White House.

At the moment there are no technical details about the details.

It is not known how many aircraft will participate, where they will do so, or how the distribution of aid will be carried out on the ground.

Gaza faces the

very real risk

of famine

and

a wave of epidemics due to the utter destruction of its infrastructure by the war.

The decision comes a day after the Israeli Armed Forces

killed about 130 Gazans

who had

attacked a food convoy

in the northern part of the region, fully controlled by the Israeli Army.

The massacre further redoubled calls for Joe Biden's government to impose a ceasefire in the war between the Islamic terrorist group Hamas and Israel since October 7.

More than

30,000 people have been killed in the fighting

, including some 6,000 Hamas militants and nearly 600 Israeli soldiers.

In addition, some 24,000 Palestinian civilians and 1,000 Israelis have died.

For Biden, opposition to the continuation of the Israeli counteroffensive is especially problematic, given that it comes from the Democratic Party itself, to which the president belongs.

On Tuesday, in the Michigan Democratic primary, the

protest vote against Biden's support for Israel

reached 12%, a worrying figure for the president, who faces a difficult re-election in November.

The Republican Party, by contrast, is totally unified in its unwavering support for Israel.

Biden has tried unsuccessfully to achieve a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

The White House had hoped that a temporary cessation of hostilities would begin on Monday, but now appears to be giving up that hope.

In Washington, the lack of agreement is attributed to the harshness of the position of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The idea of an airlift to Gaza literally sidelines Israel.
