"Many thanks to Barça, the national team, my family, my friends and obviously everyone who has been close to me day after day, without whom I would not have been able to win the Golden Boy." This is the fundamental part of the speech that Pedro González, better known as Pedri, gave during the delivery of the 2021 Ballon d'Or Award. The young midfielder of Fútbol Club Barcelona won that December 13 with the Golden Boy Trophy, which every year awards the best player under 21 years of age.

Born on November 25, 2002 in Tegueste (Santa Cruz de Tenerife), Pedri was only 18 years old when he won silver at the Olympic Games, 19 years old when he achieved the highest recognition for a bus-21 player and 19 when he lifted his first Copa del Rey. This season, just turned 20, the Canarian has celebrated his first League title and also his first Super Cup individually. Milestones that he signs as a fundamental part of Barça's midfield with a view to the future beyond the Messi stage.

In addition to having the support of the fans and the fans who chanted him while the glory bus was walking through Barcelona, Pedri González has shared the honey of his recent successes with his whole family. The Canarian footballer was surrounded by his parents, brother and grandmother at this decisive moment in his career. As reflected in his words and social media posts, it is essential for the athlete to have the support of his team. And also having time for them despite their busy sports schedule.

Pedri's family

As with many high-calibre footballers, Pedri González's origins are humble. Son of Fernando González and María Rosario López, they have run a family business for decades: the bar tasca Fernando, a typical Canarian food inn located in Tegueste, a Canarian town of 12,000 inhabitants from which the whole family is natural. To date, the player's parents continue to tend to this roadside bar with no intention of retiring. Also working with them are their uncle and grandmother Candelaria, who together with Rosario prepares successful homemade dishes such as puchero or the popular Relleno Tasca Fernando (composed of potato, bubango and onion stuffed with meat).

However, one of the people closest to the player ishis brother Fernando, two years older than him, very similar physically and with whom he shares almost the same principles, tastes and hobbies. Although he also had qualities for football, he decided to follow the same path as his parents studying a medium cycle of cooking. After doing an internship in Germany, he now lives and works in Barcelona. Both brothers live in the same dwelling and support each other.

When he has free time, Pedri likes to watch La que se avecina, follow the live shows of Ibai Llanos and, above all, compete with Fernando to the Play Station and teqball, a sport that mixes football with pin-pon and is played on a curved table. "My brother cheats a lot more than me, I always give him some advantage so he doesn't get angry," the midfielder said at the time. On the other hand, Fernando always forces his brother to follow a balanced diet and is in constant contact with the dieticians of the Football Club Barcelona to cook healthy and appetizing food.

Before joining Barça, Pedri González played for Unión Deportiva Teguest, where he took his first steps; in the Juventud Laguna and in the first team of the U.D. Las Palmas without hardly stepping on the subsidiary. In 2018, he made atrial for Real Madrid, but was never called up by the white club. This small bump did not prevent him from persevering in his dream of wearing an important shirt, specifically, the Barça. Something that fit more with the idiosyncrasy of his family than defending the Madrid shield.

Pedri's family is a lifelong culé. Something that is demonstrated when it was announced that his grandfather Antonio González, was the founder of the Peña Barcelonista de Tenerife-Tegueste. Group that today directs the father of the footballer, who (as revealed by the newspaper EL MUNDO), has also dedicated himself to redecorating his bar with images of Pedri in the Football Club Barcelona. In the village, they have always been known as "the Catalans" because of their affiliation with the Barça club. Although they have a certain pique with their Madrid clients, they never go beyond the jokes and are very loved by all their neighbors.

In his private sphere, Pedri remains the quiet and reserved boy who always ran with a ball at his feet through the streets of Tegueste. According to his relatives, the player maintains that character of neighborhood player regardless of the red carpets he steps on or the money he earns. Proof of this is his Instagram account, dedicated solely and exclusively to sharing sports images and family prints with his parents, his yaya and his brother.

At the moment, it is unknown if he has or has had a girlfriend, although several media related in his day with the influencer Tania Déniz, originally from Tenerife and former contestant of La Isla de las Tentaciones.
