At the private vaccination clinic Vaccinhuset in Jönköping, there is no time until June. Therefore, many are referred to the drop-in buses that are located in different places in the county. Depending on age, three or four doses are needed for full protection.

– Normally, one to three months should pass between doses, but now that the season has started, we say one month, says Lotta Landing, nurse at Vaccinhuset.

Increased interest

Several serious cases of TBE have been highlighted in the media and the Public Health Agency of Sweden urges the population to decide whether to get vaccinated. Lotta Landing believes that this has contributed to more and more people wanting to get vaccinated.

Even at Bra liv's vaccination clinic at one of the pharmacies in Jönköping, they confirm that they have more people who want a vaccine against TBE now. In the Jönköping County region, a political discussion is currently underway on whether to let the TBE vaccine be free for children. No decision has been made.

Mild symptoms in most people

Most people infected with TBE have mild symptoms and recover after a few days, but up to a third get an inflammation of the brain or meninges, which can lead to high fever, severe headache, vomiting and difficulty concentrating.

Most people get completely healthy, but about a third who get inflammation on the brain get long-term or permanent problems such as fatigue and memory disorders, according to data from the Public Health Agency of Sweden.
