Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu criticized the targeting of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan by the British magazine "The Economist" regarding the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for May 14.

The magazine wrote on the cover of its latest publication, "The most important electoral entitlement in 2023," calling President Erdogan a "dictator," and putting phrases such as "Erdogan must leave" and "Protect democracy."

Cavusoglu said during his visit to the Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Thursday: "They are making decisions on behalf of the Turkish people or trying to guide the Turkish nation."

He explained that the magazine called in its latest publication that President Erdogan "must leave" from power.

"Why should President Erdogan leave power? What harm does Erdogan do to you? Or what hurts Britain, for example?"

"If President Erdogan were not at the helm of power in Turkey, the world would have suffered a real food crisis, if it were not for Turkey, the security of Europe would be at risk, why interfere in the internal politics of this country?"

He noted that he had written an article for publication in the next issue of the Economist, adding: "I refrained from publishing my article in this magazine. We do not deal with those who interfere in Turkey's internal affairs. They will receive the appropriate answer from our people on May 14."
