It was a promise of Elisabeth Borne. In order to cope with the influx of migrants, 150 additional police and gendarmes were dispatched to Menton in the Alpes-Maritimes, at the Franco-Italian border. All this, under the eyes of Jordan Bardella, president of the National Rally, who came to denounce the "laxity" of the government in terms of migration.

On Wednesday, he came to observe the two border posts and talk to the police. "The control is permanent, but it is not systematic. There is discernment," a policewoman told him. "Yes, I got it. You always have manpower but you do not necessarily stop all the cars," the MEP replied.

"This is not only insufficient but it is totally ridiculous"

In an attempt to regulate illegal immigration, 100 to 200 migrants from Italy are stopped daily at the border. Most via road or on foot but also by train or sea. According to Jordan Bardella, the reinforcements arrived on Wednesday will not be enough to stop the migratory wave. "This is not only insufficient but it is totally ridiculous. The problem today is European," he said. "Above all, we need to radically change direction. Today, Frontex is being asked to pick up the boats to bring them back to European shores, to take care of the migrants. We must do the opposite from the moment a boat is taken care of, it is escorted back to its port of departure, especially when they are safe countries," he said.

In the viewfinder of the president of the RN, the Prime Minister but also, and above all, Gérald Darmanin, described as "Minister of Mass Immigration".
