The airstrike on Tuesday was carried out against an area in the small town of Pazigyi in the middle of the country. The target of the bombing raids was a ceremony where locals had gathered to mark discontent with the military junta's rule.

The bombs were dropped just over the crowd, followed by a helicopter attack half an hour after the air raid.

According to initial data, the number of fatalities was estimated at around 50, but the number rose steeply during the day, doubling according to local sources in the evening local time.
