The man was a mountain guide in the area and is said to have been up on the mountain with four other people when the avalanche was triggered on Thursday.
After the avalanche, two of the people went down the mountain to call for help.
The other two dug out the man and began resuscitation efforts.
The 50-year-old man was later taken to hospital by helicopter but his life could not be saved.
