Benin: establishment of a crisis unit after a deadly road accident

The day after the death of about twenty travelers on Sunday in Dassa in central Benin, in the collision between a bus and a truck, the authorities set up a crisis unit to welcome the families of the victims and the seriously injured.

Several ministries are mobilized for the management of this tragedy, including the Ministry of Health.

Since the tragedy, he has taken care of the injured.

He welcomed grieving families.

The accident occurred in Dassa

, far from Parakou, the starting point of the bus and 200 km from Cotonou. 

The families did not have all the information on the fate of their loved ones.

The Minister of Health gave them an appointment at the Palais des Congrès on Monday morning where a support cell was set up. 

A few dozen families were present.

After the condolences of the government, the Minister of Health Benjamin Hounkpatin chose the following method to say things: “

Those whose names you will not hear, unfortunately, will be counted among those who died.

Our condolences to the bereaved families.

The entire Government is mobilized so that our compatriots who have been able to survive benefit from the most appropriate care.

We will continue to work to secure our roads.

He gives the floor to one of his advisers who lists the names of the survivors. 

When he pronounces the last names, some families understand that their loved ones have perished in the flames.

It's the shock.

The session ends in fact, the bereaved families are directed to the team of psychologists and doctors who lead the crisis unit.

The balance sheet has increased, it goes from 20 to 22 dead.
