A small boy was hit by a tram west of Leipzig city center in front of his family on Easter Sunday. The accident occurred at the Diakonissenhaus stop on Georg-Schwarz-Straße in Leipzig-Leutzsch.

Any help came too late for the three-year-old; he died at the scene of the accident, a police spokeswoman said. He had previously gotten off at a stop with his parents and brother. As they were walking on the sidewalk next to it, the three-year-old tripped, got his foot between the curb and the train and was pulled under the vehicle.

The 57-year-old driver reportedly suffered a shock, and a crisis intervention team also looked after the boy's relatives. The incident is being investigated for negligent homicide and interference with road traffic.
