Lavrov: The Ukrainians' conditions for negotiations are "unrealistic"

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed yesterday that Ukraine's conditions for relaunching negotiations with Moscow are "unrealistic", in statements he made during the G-20 summit.

"I said again that all problems are related to the Ukrainian side, which categorically rejects negotiations and puts forward conditions that are clearly unrealistic," Lavrov told reporters on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in Indonesia, noting that he expressed this position during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.

"Third world countries are well aware that this process is being hampered by Ukraine, which, including through laws and decrees issued by (Ukrainian President Volodymyr) Zelensky, prohibits negotiations with the Russian Federation," Lavrov said.

"We want to see tangible evidence that the West is seriously interested in controlling Zelensky, and to explain to him that this cannot continue, that this is not in the interest of the Ukrainian people," the foreign minister said.

On the other hand, the advisor to the Ukrainian President, Mikhail Podolyak, responded yesterday to Lavrov's statements, as Podolyak said, in a tweet he posted on his official Twitter account, in which Lavrov mentioned that Russia launched the war.

He added, "Russian forces are committing genocide and destroying energy infrastructure, but is Ukraine prolonging the conflict?"

And he continued, in the same tweet: "The war continues only because of Lavrov's public manipulation, and his unwillingness to stop the fighting."
