Mikati: The “Taif Agreement” is still the most suitable for Lebanon

Lebanon's caretaker prime minister, Najib Mikati, considered that the "Taif Agreement" is still the most suitable for Lebanon.

This came during a press statement by Mikati when he attended the national conference on the 33rd anniversary of the Taif Agreement, which was held today, Saturday, at UNESCO in Beirut.

Mikati said, "This day's symbolism is very important, and the conference held confirms once again that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has not left Lebanon, and the large presence here indicates the confirmation of the contents of the Taif Agreement, which is still the most suitable agreement for Lebanon."

He considered that "the Taif Agreement is of paramount importance as it is a cornerstone for ending the civil war in Lebanon nearly 30 years ago," stressing that "the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has not left Lebanon and is on its side."

For his part, politician and diplomat Lakhdar Brahimi stressed, in a speech during his participation in the conference, that “the first goal of the Taif Agreement is to end the war in Lebanon,” saluting “to everyone who contributed to the completion of this agreement 33 years ago.”
