“The Pope, in response to the statements of Lavrov and Peskov, proposes to consider the Vatican as a negotiating platform between America, Europe and Russia on joint security,” he said in a comment to TASS.

Sevastyanov recalled that the Vatican is on the list of states friendly to Russia, NATO, the United States and Ukraine and it is neutral.

“Therefore, the Vatican is the optimal platform for negotiations,” he concluded.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron asked Pope Francis to call Russian and United States Presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.

In particular, he asked the Pope of Rome "to help bring peace to Ukraine."

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov welcomed the proposal of the President of France.
