In Europe, which is facing an energy crisis due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, a number of countries are announcing the expansion of coal-fired power generation.

Before the United Nations conference on climate change countermeasures, COP27, will be held next month, demonstrations were held in Belgium asking the EU = European Union to strengthen measures.

According to the organizers, about 30,000 people participated in the demonstration held in Brussels, Belgium, where the EU headquarters is located, on the 23rd.

Europe is facing an energy crisis due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the tightening of natural gas supply through pipelines from Russia.

Among the EU member countries, Germany, the Netherlands, Greece, and other countries, there is a series of moves to announce the expansion of coal-fired power generation in order to secure a stable power supply.

Participants marched through the city center carrying placards with messages such as ``Don't think about fossil fuels'' and ``Stop using coal,'' calling on the EU to take stronger measures.

COP27, a UN conference to discuss climate change measures, is scheduled to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh in eastern Egypt from next month 6, and a wide range of discussions are expected to be held toward decarbonization.
