Boris Johnson has announced that he will not run for the leadership of the Tories and, therefore, for his return to Downing Street.

"In recent days I have sadly come to the conclusion that this (participation in the internal race of the Conservative party, ed) would not be the right thing to do, simply", said the former prime minister in a statement.

"You cannot govern effectively without the united party in Parliament," adds BoJo.

Johnson's departure now appears to pave the way for his former chancellor of the exchequer Rishi Sunak.

Johnson claimed he collected more than the 100 MP endorsements needed to run, but failed to get Sunak and the other suitor, Penny Mordaunt, to reunite behind him.

While believing to be the best card to win the elections in 2024.
