On September 14, Hainan Province held a press conference on "Implementing Geographical Indications to Promote Projects to Develop Characteristic Brands to Help Rural Revitalization". Xiao Chao, director of the Hainan Provincial Intellectual Property Office, introduced that as of now, Hainan Province has a total of 220 special signs for geographical indications. As for the main body, since 2021, 185 new GI signs have been added, accounting for 84.09% of the total over the years, and the target market entities have increased significantly.
Among the 116 geographical indication products, 39 have an annual output value of over 100 million yuan, and 10 have an annual output value of 1 billion yuan.
Hainan Province, as one of the first provinces in the country to carry out the pilot reform of the approval of the use of special signs for geographical indication protection products, has established and improved the use approval work system, incorporated the use approval business into the provincial integrated government service platform, continuously improved the handling guidelines, and simplified the handling process.
Since April 2021, the approval time limit has been shortened from 3 months to 1 working day.
