The police - intervened after a phone call to the emergency number - found five bodies inside a house: three children, aged 10, 12 and 13, a woman and a man.
The victims - found in different parts of the house - had gunshot wounds.
The phone call, which arrived at 9.19 in the morning, reported the death of a woman and three children.
The agents also found a fifth body, an adult man with a gun beside him.
He may have been the author of the massacre.
“It's a terrible day for our community,” said Scott Adams, sheriff of Cecil County, an area of 100,000 inhabitants on the Pennsylvania border.
Hours after the discovery, the police have not yet provided details.
