Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stressed the importance of the army's role in both war and reconstruction, and pointed out that his country faces challenges at various levels, especially military and economic ones.

And he said, in a speech he addressed to the Syrian army on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the Army’s Day, through the People’s Army magazine, the army’s spokeswoman, yesterday: “Our country today faces huge challenges at various levels and directions, especially militarily and economically, which calls for concerted efforts by all to overcome obstacles and take the initiative. And directing the compass of national action in the right direction.”

He stressed that "the army has always been for war and reconstruction, and its institutions were strongly present in the fields of building and upgrading the country, fortifying it and preserving the dignity of its sons."

Al-Assad urged the army institution to "maintain discipline and commitment in carrying out training and combat missions."
