Germany: Our capabilities are limited and we have no weapons left to offer to Ukraine

German Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht announced that the German army is suffering from a shortage of stocks, pointing out that there are few weapons left that can be provided to Ukraine.

According to DPA, this came during Lambrecht's visit to the German-French brigade in Mülheim, on Tuesday.

"We can no longer provide many equipment and weapons from the stocks of the German army to Kiev," the German defense minister said.

She added that she had a very close and constructive relationship with Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov, noting that he had been informed of the limited capabilities of the German army.

Earlier today, the EU Commissioner for Internal Trade Thierry Breton announced that the EU is currently suffering from a shortage of ammunition, artillery and defense systems due to sending military aid to Ukraine.

“EU countries have responded to Ukraine’s call and supported it with weapons. However, arms shipments to Ukraine have depleted European stocks of ammunition, heavy and light artillery, air defense and anti-tank systems, as well as armored vehicles and tanks,” Breton said.

"This shortage creates a situation of vulnerability that must be addressed urgently," he added.

Since Russia began its military operation in Ukraine on February 24, Western countries have transferred or pledged more than $10 billion in military aid to Kyiv, from portable rocket launchers and armored vehicles to rifles and massive amounts of ammunition.

Russia has condemned the flow of weapons into the conflict zone in Ukraine from the West, saying that this approach is adding fuel to the fire and derailing the prospects for peace negotiations.
