"Most regrettably, following today's contact with the Mayor of London, it is clear that the Mayor of London no longer has sufficient confidence in my leadership," Dick said in a statement.

According to her, the mayor left her no choice but to leave the post of police chief of the capital.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan cited Dick's reaction to the demand to "root out the racism, sexism, homophobia and discrimination" still present in the London police force as the reason for the resignation.

"I'm not happy with the police chief's reaction," Khan said in a statement posted on Twitter.
