In a statement from his Foreign Ministry, Minsk denies having acted illegally by confusing a commercial RyanAir flight on Sunday, to arrest an opponent on board, according to accusations from some European countries.

Belarus assured Monday that it acted legally by intercepting a commercial flight after a bomb threat, rejecting accusations by Europeans who suspect Minsk of having hijacked the plane to arrest an opponent on board.

"There is no doubt that the actions of our competent bodies were in accordance with international rules," the Foreign Ministry said on its site, rejecting the "baseless accusations" of European countries, accused of "politicizing "the incident.
