Berlin (dpa) - The health authorities of North Rhine-Westphalia reported 4511 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day.

In addition, 236 new deaths were recorded in the most populous state within 24 hours, as the RKI announced on Wednesday morning.

The number of new infections in the past 7 days per 100,000 inhabitants was 115.3 on Wednesday morning, the national average.

The 7-day incidence is therefore highest in the Gütersloh district with 179.5 cases.

This infection rate is lowest in the Hochsauerlandkreis with 62.7 cases.

According to the most recent RKI data, no district or city in North Rhine-Westphalia is above the 200 mark for the 7-day incidence.

An interpretation of the data remains difficult because around Christmas and the turn of the year, according to the RKI, corona cases were discovered, recorded and transmitted with a delay.
