• Negotiations.Brussels presents palliative measures in the face of the chaos of a possible Brexit without agreement

The 'premier' Boris Johnson has recognized that there is a "strong possibility" of not reaching a trade agreement with the EU and has instructed his cabinet to accelerate the preparations for the 'no deal' and to mentalize the British to prepare for the abrupt end of the Brexit transition period, on January 1.

"We are not going to abandon conservation, we will continue negotiating, but seeing what is on the table it

is vital that we all prepare for the 'Australian' option

," Johnson stressed, in the most direct warning to the population.

"At this moment, I must tell you with all sincerity that the agreement is not there, and that is the opinion of our cabinet as well."

According to Johnson,

the current Brussels proposals "would leave the UK in the orbit of the EU"

, with the imposition of tariffs and sanctions if London decides not to align with the bloc's laws.

The 'premier' also referred to the differences over fishing quotas: "After the years that have passed since we voted to leave the EU, we still would not have control of our territorial waters, and that is not good."

In full countdown to the deadline for next Sunday, set after his meeting with the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, Johnson assured however that he is willing to

go "an extra mile" and travel if necessary to Brussels. Berlin or Paris

.

The Australian model

The conservative leader assured that today, the solution for the United Kingdom "looks much more like an Australian solution than a Canadian one."

Australia does not have a trade agreement with the EU and

relations are established by specific agreements

and under the general rules of the World Trade Organization.

"That does not mean that it is a bad thing: there are many ways in which we can turn it into an advantage,"

added the 'premier', despite the fact that the Office of Budget Responsibility estimates that the 'no deal' could translate into a contraction of the 2% of GDP.

"Now is the time for people and companies to prepare for January 1, because there is going to be change one way or another."

Johnson hinted that the letter that broke the game in the negotiations was the proposal of an "equivalence" between the United Kingdom and the European Union

, "launched in the last two weeks."

"That basically means that we must follow the new laws they pass," he warned.

"It is as if we are twins and if the EU decides to have a haircut, the UK should either get the same cut or face punishment ... Or if the EU decides to buy an expensive handbag, the UK should too. Clearly, it is not the sensible way to move forward or to negotiate a trade deal.

It is a way of wanting to get caught up in their regulatory orbit

. "
