- For us, it has been a stop. We have had close contact with our host, but they have said no. Last Friday we received an e-mail about paying the rent in April, otherwise the Crown Guardian is waiting, says Victoria Denie, who runs a clothing store at Djursholm square outside Stockholm.

In order for the state to pay out a subsidy, it is first required that the property owner agrees to lower the rent. The state then compensates some of the reduction afterwards. Last week, the European Commission gave the green light to the support, which gave birth to hopes that there would now be more store owners who would benefit from it.

Unclear design

But the trade organization Svensk Handel thinks that the interest among the property owners is weak.

- There are a lot of property owners who do not want or can do anything about the rent, says Karin Johansson, CEO of Svensk Handel.

From the property owners' industry organization, it is emphasized that there are property owners who have lowered the rent, but it is thought that the design of the government support is so unclear that today there is no wish to make any recommendations on how the various property owners should act.

- Recommendations also mean commitments and this time the government has chosen a model that contains some ambiguities that we must find out before we can make recommendations, says

Want to avoid middlemen

Both Swedish Trade and the Property Owners believe that the support, rather than going through the property owners, should have gone directly to the companies that lost most during the corona crisis.

- It is more accurate and is aimed directly at the entrepreneurs who need it, it is not possible through an intermediary, says Karin Johansson, CEO of Svensk Handel.

"Before the next quarter, we sincerely hope that we will get a different model," says the government redoing the rules, says Reinhold Lennebo, CEO of Real Estate Owners.

Business Minister Ibrahim Baylan lets health through his press secretary that the government does not rule out more measures.
