In this way, British veteran captain Tom Moore, 99, raised £ 23 million to support NHS Charities Together , the charities that support the British Health Service by raising funds for UK hospitals, as well as for medical and paramedical healthcare personnel, volunteers and patients affected by Covid-19.

Last April 10, via Twitter, Tom Moorehe had pledged to raise a thousand pounds by his 100th birthday on April 30, writing: "I am Captain Tom Moore, a 99-year-old war veteran and I will walk the National Health System to raise money for our heroes."

No sooner said than done. Leaning on the walker, inside his garden Captain Moore started to go 10 laps per day on the 25 meters of the green space of his property in a Regimental tie and blue jacket with the medals received during the Second World War.

The goal of raising a thousand pounds by the end of the month has been largely achieved: in just over a week, as many as 23 million pounds have been gathered.

In addition to the estimate of the royal family, there was the announcement of an award by Prime Minister Boris Johnson , still recovering from Covid-19.

"We have all been honored by the gestures, large and small, of people across the country to show support for those who work so hard to protect the NHS and save lives - none more than Captain Tom Moore, who has collected a surprising amount. £ 23 million this week for NHS charities, "said UK Secretary of Housing , Robert Jenrick . "I can't think of someone more worthy of being a guest of honor at the opening of the new Nightingale Hospital in Harrogate next week."
