It is a bad surprise for thousands of employees who have stopped working to babysit a child under the age of 16: they discovered by reading their March pay slip that they had not received the full income expected replacement. All this because they did not fulfill a condition laid down by law: to have at least one year of seniority in the company.

The government is preparing a decree

Caroline did not expect that. Employed on a part-time position in mass distribution, she stopped work from the start of confinement to be able to take care of her 4-year-old daughter and her 10-month-old baby boy. "Usually, I get just over 800 euros," she says. "There when I opened my pay slip for the month of March, I had the unpleasant surprise to see that I had only received 500 euros. Yet I thought I understood that my salary would be maintained or almost maintained."

The young woman was hired four months ago. Up to now, the law has reserved for employees who have been in post for at least a year, the obligation for the employer to supplement the daily allowances paid by Social Security in the event of work stoppage.
