Last year, foreign tourists contributed SEK 8 billion to the Swedish economy in March.

That figure has fallen by almost a hundred percent this year, according to statistics from the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce.

- March is generally a month with fairly low tourism to Sweden, so there will be even more money in the coming months, says Stefan Westerberg, at the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce.

"Will be even more notice in the future"

It is the hospitality industry that must catch the biggest blow, especially the hotel, restaurant and transport industry.

- There are many companies will go bankrupt unless the situation turns around soon. The location is total night black. It is a lot of notice and will be even more in the future. The hospitality industry is dying and it will take a long time for it to recover, says Stefan Westerberg.

Strikes hard against young and foreign born

Small business owners will find it most difficult to get back on their feet according to Stefan Westerberg, but the lost revenue also affects some groups in society more than others.

- There are many young and foreign-born who work in these industries. If they lose their jobs, we believe it will lead to increased long-term unemployment and greater exclusion, ”he says.

What is needed to save the businesses?

- We think the emergency packages that have come from the Riksbank and the government are good. But the money needs to get out to the companies quickly, it's not a matter of months but days.

- However, emergency packages involve loans that must be repaid in the long term, which means that companies will have to fight for a long time to come.
