The new Bissau-Guinean president Umaro Sissoco Embalo began his first official tour through Dakar, Brazzaville and Abuja to thank those who supported him during his couse for the Pink Palace.

" I do not have many friends on the continent, but those I have are very good friends, " likes to say the newly elected president of Guinea-Bissau.

First step in Dakar. The relations between the Senegalese president and the one who affectionately calls him " my brother " date from 1998. Umaro Sissoco Embalo, having fled the civil war in his country, was welcomed for nine years by the family of Macky Sall. I felt at home in his family. When he was elected president in 2009, he said to me I wish that one day I would also be president at home. Ten years later, I was elected. He is therefore my marabout, ”explained Umaro Sissoco Embalo.

" Relations between Senegal and Guinea-Bissau are above all friendship and brotherhood, " wrote on his Twitter account Umaro Sissoco Embalo.

Brazzaville was the second step. President Embalo is not in uncharted territory with his political mentor. " He considers me his own son, " he said. And Papa Sassou has always given me advice that has allowed me to get to where I am today ”.

The journey ends Monday with Abuja, headquarters of the ECOWAS. The meeting with President Buhari will also take place as in Brazzaville, without any major protocol. Muhammadu Buhari is a guide and his advice will allow the new elected official to enter without hindrance into the circle of heads of state of the region.

"When you are on the back of an elephant, crossing the backwater is done without fear Says an old Guinean adage. The new president also plans to visit Cape Verdean President Jorge Carlos Fonseca, president-in-office of the community of Portuguese-speaking countries, before his inauguration on February 15.
