”, announced the president of the organization's Commission regional this Saturday in Abuja.

Sanctions were imposed on Niamey after a military regime took power and overthrew elected President Mohamed Bazoum in July.

Borders and airspace will notably be reopened, it was clarified at the end of this extraordinary summit.

ECOWAS therefore withdraws almost all its sanctions against Niger, and demands the immediate release of Mohammed Bazoum.

The final press release from the sub-regional organization does not clearly specify whether the withdrawal of sanctions is conditional on the request for the release of Mr. Bazoum.

Discussions between heads of state of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) are not over.

The heads of state of Togo, Benin, Senegal, Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau are finalizing a text which will form the proposal for a complete response and the response of the moment to the open crisis between ECOWAS on one side , and on the other Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.
