Nathaël Julan, Guingamp striker (Ligue 2), died Friday afternoon at 23 in a road accident, announced the Breton club.

"En Avant Guingamp is in mourning. The club had the immense pain of learning this afternoon of the accidental death of its player Nathaël Julan," the club explained on its Twitter account, offering its condolences to the relatives of the young man.

According to the Côtes d'Armor Departmental Fire and Rescue Operational Center (Codis), Nathaël Julan's car left the road while it was traveling on an expressway in Pordic, near Saint-Brieuc, near 4:00 p.m., and struck a tree at high speed.

When help arrived, the young man was freed but he was already in cardiopulmonary arrest. He died at the scene of the accident. Blood samples were taken and an investigation was entrusted to the gendarmerie.

Due to the tragedy, the friendly match scheduled for Saturday between Guingamp and Concarneau has been canceled.

Trained in Le Havre (L2), the young man had signed his first professional contract there in 2016, before committing to Guingamp in January 2018. Last winter, he had been loaned for the end of the season in Valenciennes (L2 ).
