Scotland's David Moyes has been named coach to replace Manuel Pellegrini, who was dismissed on Saturday, the London suburban club announced on Sunday.

This is the second time that 56-year-old David Moyes has found himself at the head of the Hammers, after a first appearance between November 2017 and June 2018.

Moyes, who has since been without a club, will be responsible for maintaining the Premier League. West Ham is currently 17th in the English championship, with only one point ahead of Aston Villa, the first relegation after twenty days.

"It's fabulous to be back," Moyes said in a club statement. "I am very proud to be back here in West Ham. But the most important thing will be to see what I can do and bring."

"I think this team has better players than I did before, and I look forward to working with them," said the former Celtic Glasgow player.

His coaching career, notably spent by Everton (2002-2013), Real Sociedad (2014-2015) and Sunderland (2016-2017), will have suffered from a totally missed episode at Manchester United, where he had the formidable honor of succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson during the 2013-2014 season. MU then finished 7th in the championship and was eliminated from the Champions League in the quarterfinals by Bayern Munich, all producing an unpleasant game.

Chilean Manuel Pellegrini, who arrived at the start of the 2018 season, was thanked after a new home defeat on Saturday against Leicester (1-2). He is the 6th coach removed from office this season in the English Championship.

The former coach of River Plate, Real Madrid (2009-2010) and Manchester City (2013-2016), which he led to the title of champion of England in 2014, had been on an ejection seat for several weeks.
