“The Secretary of State and the Minister of Foreign Affairs discussed the importance of NATO and the need to continue transatlantic cooperation to counter threats to mutual security interests,” the agency said.

The parties also "exchanged views on the importance of joining the EU for Northern Macedonia and Albania, on supporting Ukraine and on holding Iran accountable for its ongoing provocations."

On November 7, French leader Emmanuel Macron expressed the view that NATO is undergoing a “brain death” and that it is time for Europe to decide its own fate.

U.S. President Donald Trump later said he was disappointed with this statement by Macron.
