The executive committee of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has unanimously decided to refer four AKP members, including former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, to the disciplinary committee along with the final dismissal request.

This came during a meeting of the Committee, which was held on Monday, chaired by the President of the party and the country Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

In addition to Ihsanoglu, the committee referred MPs Selcuk Ozdag, Ayhan Safar Ustun and Abdullah Bashi to the disciplinary committee.

The Anatolia news agency reported that the executive committee plans to refer the former presidents of the party branches in the capital Ankara and Istanbul to the disciplinary committee with a request for the final dismissal.

Davutoglu is one of the most prominent figures of the ruling party and has held several party and government positions, including the Foreign Ministry and the Prime Minister.

Davutoglu's referral to the disciplinary committee as a prelude to his dismissal comes as other leading party figures such as former President Abdullah Gul and former Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan, both founding members of the AKP, are distanced from the party.

In early July, Babacan announced his resignation because of "deep disparities" and the need for a "new vision."

Turkish media have reported that Babacan, who previously served as minister of economy and foreign affairs before becoming deputy prime minister until 2015, is preparing to establish a new political party next fall with former President Abdullah Gul.
