Many malmö residents testify about the serious crime after the murder of the doctor and the new mother Karolin Hakim a week ago.

- We have full respect for feeling anxious. Unfortunately, we see a shift around where the violence is, from having been in dark spaces and parking in the middle of the night to being shot in the daytime in the public environment, says Stefan Sintéus.

But what is being done to address the raw violence?

- Long-term measures that we take together with the city are to ensure that the young people can manage the school, that they will have a different alternative than crime when they are 14-15 years of age. Stop the inflow to the crime, that's the most important thing.

Early intervention and faster prosecution

Katrin Stjernfelt Jammeh (S), agrees that early action is important and also emphasizes the importance of civil society taking responsibility.

- We need to promote the school happiness, expand family centers. We have many parents who unfortunately fail in their care. It is important that adults are involved - that property owners, municipalities, police and others work in residential areas where the exposure is greatest, she says.

Katrin Stjernfelt Jammeh also wants the government to allow faster prosecution.

National Defender Program

Both the municipal council and the police chief emphasize the importance of defender programs, especially national ones.

- We need a national defender program, a real opportunity to leave the crime. You can't hide in your own, says Katrin Stjernfelt Jammeh.

Stefan Sintéus also wants the government to overhaul the police resources.

- There are measures that are faster than legislation. The police today handle animals, lost goods, transport. All this we can opt out of the police and thus free resources to work with crime prevention, says Stefan Sintéus.
