Ali announced Henry's resignation and called on the international community to take action as soon as possible to restore security in Haiti and consider providing humanitarian assistance to the Haitian people.

Henry also said in a video speech on the evening of the 11th that he would resign "as soon as the (Haiti) Transitional Presidential Council is established."

He said his government will continue to deal with day-to-day affairs until a prime minister and a new government are appointed.

Henry's resignation comes as the security situation in Haiti deteriorates.

On July 7, 2021, Haiti's then President Moise was assassinated, leaving a power vacuum. Although Henry has always assumed leadership responsibilities, gang forces have become increasingly rampant and crime has surged. Originally scheduled for February 7, 2024 The general election held recently has also been postponed, and social dissatisfaction has become increasingly serious.

Since February 29, gangs in Haiti have attacked multiple public facilities and demanded that Henry step down.

At the time of the incident, Henry was in Kenya signing an agreement to deploy international security forces to help address violence. When he returned to Haiti, his plane was refused landing at Haiti International Airport and subsequently had to make a temporary stop in Puerto Rico.
