"Despite calls from the Interior Ministry, the protesters continued to invade the parliament building, trying to resist the police and disobey their legitimate demands," the text says.

The ministry noted that the police used “special opportunities provided by law” to ensure security.

"The Interior Ministry will give an appropriate assessment of the attempt of a mass coup and the invasion of the parliament building," the statement says.

Earlier it was reported that at the clashes of protesters and police officers near the building of the Georgian parliament in the center of Tbilisi, at least 52 people, including 38 policemen, were injured.
