Saudi Arabia sent a letter to the Security Council last night demanding Iran's destructive behavior in the region. Iranian leader Ali Khamenei attacked both President Hassan Rowhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif over the nuclear deal.

In a letter to the Security Council, Saudi Arabia called for "curbing" Iran's destructive behavior and referred to Iran's reckless behavior and its drive to drag the region into a dangerous situation.

It also confirmed the Iranian regime's continued support for its client wings in the region, its infringement on international peace and security, and the stability and supply of oil markets in the world.

Saudi Arabia appealed to the Security Council and the international community to shoulder its responsibilities by taking a firm stand against the Iranian regime.

And stressed that it would take all necessary measures to prevent war.

As tensions mount with Washington, Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, distanced himself from a historic nuclear deal signed in 2015 with world powers, saying the president and the foreign minister had not acted as he wanted to implement the deal.

"To a certain extent, I was not convinced of the way the nuclear agreement was applied," Khamenei said in comments posted on his official Web site.

"I do not trust very much the way in which the (nuclear agreement) came into effect. We have repeatedly told the president and the foreign minister, and we have sent them a notification," he said.

Khamenei's comments, made during a meeting with students last night, are the first to blame President Hassan Rowhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Jawad Zarif by name for his concerns over the deal.

Rouhani and Zarif are seen as key supporters of the nuclear deal within the Iranian political system.

Separately, Khamenei said that Iranian youth would see the demise of Israel and American civilization.

"You young people, you have to believe that you will see the demise of the enemies of humanity, which means the disintegration of American civilization and the demise of Israel," Khamenei said.

This comes at a time quoted by the agency «Fars» news of the Chief of Staff of the Iranian armed forces, General Mohammad Baqri, yesterday, saying that the confrontation between Iran and the United States is a "conflict of wills," noting that any "adventure" of the enemies will face an overwhelming response.

Iranian and US leaders have reassured the two peoples that they are not seeking war, but nerves are strained among ordinary Iranians who are struggling with tougher sanctions for fear of getting out of hand.

Some Iranians expect the pressure to lead to negotiations, such as when former US President Barack Obama stressed the sanctions that have crippled the Iranian economy and led to the 2015 nuclear deal.

Others, however, believe that their leaders will not go back on track, following the sanctions imposed by President Donald Trump.

On the other hand, the Iranians are facing the repercussions of sanctions and tension day by day, and residents and shop owners said fears of difficult access to products have prompted some Iranians to store rice, hygiene items and canned foods.
